How can I get an affordable room/apartment in NYC for 3 months?

I want to spend two to three months in New York City next year (starting April) and would like to know whether you know where to find accomodation. Since I am German I guess this whole credit check that people have to go through to get a (furnished) apartment could be a bit difficult. I also don’t want to pay tons of money for a real estate agent, when I only intend to stay for such a short period of time.
I already looked at Craigslist, but there are only very short term apartments available.
Should I tip the maid at a serviced apartment?

I’m currently temporarily living in a serviced apartment (aka corporate housing) in Canada. I am paying rent by the month based on a daily rate, which includes maid service twice a week.
Back home, I have a maid clean my home once a week, and since I hired her myself and pay her directly, I don’t tip her.
Whenever I stay in hotels, I always tip the maid. But the serviced apartment I’m staying in is more like an apartment rental than a hotel in many ways.
Given my situation, should I be tipping the maid?

I have had the original stock for over 2 years, but now the company is being bought. I bought a flat in bangalore in 2005 for 38 lakhs.The possession and registration was in June 2007 and it costed 1.5L for registration. I have also spent 3L for wood work and 1.5L for furnitures. Now i am selling the fully furnished @ 55 Lakhs where in 4L is reimbursement for furnitures and the wood work done. I had also taken a home loan for 35 Lakh and is repaying the same from 2006.
Could anyone guide me on taxes part of it ?.
Is north or south of the harbour best?
